From what I've read it is a pain, mainly due to the fact that you need to have headlight washers with xenon lights. I have no idea why.

EU regs is why, along with automatic headlight adjustment and leveling.

Thats a bit like saying "i've never been refused an MOT on my car with a hole in the floor, a loose steering wheel, and razor blades glued onto the wings"

Just because you may have passed an MOT, doesnt make it any more legal.

HID's need auto levelling, washers and the burners need to be fitted to type approved light units.

This means you can retrofit, but only using a type approved headlight (ie an OEM Audi HID headlamp unit) and with the appropriate levelling and washing systems.

A HID bulb fitted inside a H7 Halogen projector headlamp doesnt meet the regs, even with the other parts added.

It's not about passing the MOT, it's about being legal, and considering other road users. There's nothing worse than someone with HID's fitted into reflector headlamps, it's almost as bad as someone whose beams aren't adjusted properly, the law is there for a reason.

Do you have these lights already or looking for a complete solution, do you mean oem headlights or aftermarket xenons?

What I don't understand is why the people that make xenon headlights dont make the arc ti be in the same position as where the filament in a bulb would be. Its not about how bright they are as you can put 100 watt bulbs in your headlights and they will still give you the same beam pattern.

I have a HID kit fitted to my standard headlights and I've adjusted the position of the HID arc to be exactly where the original bulbs filament was and I do now have a perfect beam pattern from them with no unwanted flare at all.
