headlight removal - bumper off or not??

Hi all, need to check my connections inside headlight unit as one flickers off occasionally when driving, mainly on bumpy roads.

done a bit of research & had a quick go, got as far as light unit loose in hole, unsupported but cant see a way of getting it out without removing the bumper.

is this correct? seems a bit stooopid for german engineering if you ask me?

Bumper off is the only way I know. Only takes about 10 minutes though

ok, so how does the bumper come off?

simply i hope.

Use this step by step guide. You will need an extended 10mm socket to get the 2 nuts under the headlamp on both sides.
