Hi Guys
I'm think of buying VAG-COM but don't know if it's worth it, anyone have any experience of using it and if so what kind of things can be done with it.

www.ross-tech.com (http://www.ross-tech.com) it's all there!
I bought as I use it a lot. If I hadn't had it I wouldn't have found that one of my knock sensors had an intermittent fault. Since the servicing could be 18months apart and with the engine tuned I want to be confident that nothings amiss.
I also have used to add alarm beep, one/two touch unlocking, speed auto locking etc etc.
Perhaps this be in the correct forum then you may get more answers.

Yes it is, especially as Scotty says if you have a tuned car.
For example I had my car serviced and everything seemed fine but I happened to check using VAG-COM for any errors and found a N249 valve error.
Turns out the stealer had not reconnected the N249 valve when replacing my coil packs - now all this is under the engine cover so I wouldnt of noticed this without VAG-COM.

Yeah, my vag-com has paid for itself AT LEAST twice over. It's nice to be able to actually do something with the electronics on the car rather than having to rely on the stealer for the electric stuff. It's also great for the little stuff like scoTTy mentioned. Go ahead and drop the cash for it, you won't regret it.

how do you actually learn how to use it? i was having a look at the free version and to change things it looks like you need different codes?

Its all in code (just number sequences)... the ross-tech website details how to do stuff and its all pretty straight forward.
