HVAC excessive comm error

I have read somewhere that this is not uncommon, and the resolution involves changing some of the setings. Obviously I don't know what these are so any help would be appreciated

It's a non opto USB lead, no hardware converter but there is a software virtual serial port.

The speed issue makes sense, thank's for the advice I'll try it out tonight
