My A4 cabrio is currently on its way from the UK to join me in Australia. Part of the import process involves identification of the gas used in the system. My car is a 2008 B7 cabrio, and Audi UK have advised that the system is CFC-free, but does anyone know what the actual gas used is?

Thanks in advance, Paul

the actual gas used is called R134a, it is the modern refrigerant used in most Air con Units and replaced r12 which was phased out in 1993 as it was harmful.

R134a is not explosive or harmful

Dazmo is spot on. The freon used is R134a. This is a NON ozone depleting gas. No harm will come to the outback ;)

A little bit of an old thread to add to Mike but you should remember that R134a is a greenhouse gas and it shouldn't be vented to atmosphere.
