the air con on my a3 has been tempremental the past couple of days and has now stopped working, the air just doesnt go cold, i popped into to halfords for the free air con check bloke told me to whack te air con on full and he checked it and the presure was too high? whats happend its been working fine the past few weeks?

Your high pressure fault may be with the condenser cooling fans.
If there is not enough air flow through the front rads the system pressure will build, normally the fans will kick in and cool the condenser and reduce the system pressure.
Too much and the pressure switch will switch off the compressor.
Check the amount of gas in the system as well.
would these mean a new condenser then?
You may have a electric fan not working, or maybe a build up of dead insects or general crud reducing the airflow through the rads.
As the pressure tests are carried out when the car is not moving the airflow is reliant on the cooling fans, this will highlight the problem.
And take it to an A/C specialist, do not let Halfords anywhere near it.
