    Too much air con pressure

    Been told by vagcom that my a4 has too much pressure in the aircon system.

    Is this dangerous and would it cause any problems?

    Any idea how much an aircon specialist will charge to let some pressure out?

    If there is too much pressure the high pressure cut out will just prevent the compressor from working. This prevents any damage to components but of course means you then don't have any air conditioning.

    If the pressure is just outside of limits but low enough that the HPCO does not operate then continued use will simply increase the wear on components. I don't know how wide this margin is though.

    A specialist would be able to remove some refrigerant to bring the pressure within limits but this is a crude way of doing things. Refrigerant in a system is measured by it's weight not by pressure. The tolerance is normally about 25grams either side of the recommended fill limit. This limit depends on the car but for an 8P A3 for example this is 525 grams.

    It would be better to get a full recovery and fill by a specialist. That way you can be sure that you're getting the right amount put in the system. Also this needs to be done every few years so you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

    If pressure is showing too high in fault memory then it is very unlikely that there will be too much gas in system. If it is showing High pressure sender fault it can be caused by too little gas in system normally caused by a leak. (short to earth fault).
    If you can view Measure value Block 1 and pressure in system is showing 30 Bar or there abouts then you have got a faulty pressure sensor.
    If system works ok at start then cuts out then you may have a genuine high pressure problem most commonly caused by Radiator fan not working and causing pressure to rise above limits.

    As above, but their are some other factors that will get high system pressure.

    Not enough airflow through the condenser, eletric fan not working?

    Moisture in the system, a/c lines have been opened and the drier has not been changed?
