No Reverse WHY ???

Hi All.

They broke into my 1997 2.8 A8. They stole my DVD/CD Entertainment system. in the process the stole the whole front console complet with the controls for the aircon/switches etc etc. they also broke the gear stick in order to remove the console. This has all been replaced now. Ever since I can't select reverse and the tiptronic don't work. I'm not even sure the the gears will change. I don't dare drive it.
the only gear that seems to work is drive. the gear indicator on the dash is all illuminating. i can't tell what gear i'm in.
is this an electrical fault ? or is the gearbox gone ?
any advise ? can anyone recommend a good honest mechanic who can rectify this problem ?

You have poss got some fault with you gaer selector circuit board or you might have something fallen down into the selector..
