Noisy power steering?

The steering on my 1996 3.7ltr A8 has got quite noisy lately. It had occasionally, in recent years, made a deep vibrating noise when turning left into my drive. But recently, higher pitched vibrating noises are coming from behind the steering wheel. These seem tyre pressure sensitive. Should I be bracing myself for the price of a new rack all the stuff that goes with it?

How did you get on with the steering?
May have a similar problem with my new toy - deep vibration with steering on lock and under power (gentle), but no noises.

Had the fluid changed, but the noise still there. It just sounds like its at a slightly different pitch.

Not sure if ther is more quieter noises now too?

Hi Guys,
I've got the same problem, but I've got a service & cam bel change booked for next week, so I'll let you know what happens after that. (The steering pump belts are changed as part of the cam belt change)

The stealers here recon should change the pullies and tentioners too?

That's right Georgie, they do. I've had quotes from 2 different dealers and a couple of independent specialists. The dealers price is pretty much identical.
