Well after spending a load of money on new winter tyres and wheels, and getting her ready for some long trips during the cold and winter months, first time on the motorway and BANG! red boxes on PRNDS and gearbox into limp mode....

Got it booked into the gearbox specialists in Glasgow, hoping it's nothing too serious, maybe a micro-sensor or something??

Anyone got any ideas what it could be???

Worse than that, I limp it home, jump into the S4 to complete the trip, it has issues as well (Washer bottle leak, rear light fail and it uses ALL it's oil on the motorway, this is on top of the 1st and 2nd gear crunch issue - and having already got a new clutch and flywheel)

It seems I have a bit of bad luck at the moment with these fast Audis...

Thankfully my £500, 150k mile, 17 year old Jeep still works perfectly.... lol

lol.. this is a busy section! :p

Anyway, just to update, er, myself it seems, the S8 came up with 3 error codes, I cancelled them and done a rescan and it was clear...

It ran fine to the garage, but they have found another one regarding the "kickdown module" so that's getting sorted now...

:D

lol bits for those dont seem too bad , its the mechatronics that are pricey. I had a new high clutch kit fitted complete and was only 380.

Thats a decent price... yeah I was more worried about the mecha-things... The garage confirmed that the gearbox is working fine, the only thing they could "see" was this module... which was probably why I was saying the box was 'confused' sometimes when coming out of a corner... it felt like it didn't know if it should change down or not...

Hopefully it will be all fixed this week....

Does the Tiptronic work OK?
I use a bloke on the southcoast at Sussexautoparts, he was very helpful, giving prices for all the parts.

nope, the "red boxes" meant I couldn't do anything with buttons on the steering wheel, or use the trip on the gearstick

:racer:

Change the gearbox fluid. Absolute MUST DO on D2 S8's..........every 30K at least. Usually no problems afterwards.
