Damage Claim

Not having much luck me but wanted to see what folks thoughts are.

After buying the car last wednesday noticed a vibrating in the steering wheel on the way home, as suspected after fitting two fresh tyres the balancing hadnt been done.

So thursday morning i go along to the local tyre company, i have a good relationship with them since they do our truck tyres too so see the lads quite often.

tyres were balanced all well and good and the journey went great until the gearbox started playing up, see other thread.

So i arrive at our destination and notice and dent and also a crack in the sill, around where one of the jacking points are. Suspicion would say that the chap dropped the jack too quick and the car bounced off the jack.

Anyway i didnt say much then since i was away from the tyre place and down the road also mind was pre occupied with the gearbox issue. I know the argument would be you drove away from the place and that anything else could happen in the mean time, theyd say i could have done it myself.

So.. do i have any leg to stand on if i wanted to make a complaint? or am i best to keep quiet not rock the boat and just pay for the repair myself?

Nah nah I would be back knocking on the door. You shouldn't need to pay or even live with that.

think id be flogging a dead horse and ruin my relationship with them in the same swing, after describing the damage to a family member whos a recently qualified panel beater/sprayer he suggests id be paying about £200 ish either cut the sill and patch or pull the dent, weld the crack and paint

As you say it would be a case of proof. If you had spotted the damage you should have said something immediately. If you go back days later then it going to be your word against theirs. Go to a dent specialist they will be able to repair most of the damage, and a boby shop will be able to repair the rest.

Have to say your not having much luck at the moment (I know the feeling), hope things improve for you.

nope my concern is things come in threes haha, £200 i can cope with for a repair, but dont really want to fork out much else, suppose either way it needs fixed.

More annoyed that theres something i missed, when speaking to the lads brother on facebook he said he noticed a small hole in the n/s sill, but its the o/s sill thats damaged, will need a proper look once the car is back

The plastic jacking point hasn't fallen out of sill? as that fits in a hole on sill, also could be one of the bungs fallen out?

Sorry to hear your ownership is not going so great but I hope all comes good.

No its not been great so far.
After driving my corsa a couple days im itching to get the audi back.

Furious about the damage and I'm fairly sure of my suspicions but pointless pointing fingers now. Will just have to bang in a few overtime shifts to cover the repair

You give up too easily,.....if you genuinely think they have caused the damage you should go back and point it out to whoever is in charge of the business. It'll be the sort of damage most tyre depots will have seen before. You may be surprised, these things happen occasionally and they may well value their reputation enough to own up and put it right.

so i grew a pair and went down to the tyre fitters and stated the situation, obviously the guy wasnt impressed but said theyd take a look at the damage on the car when i got it back

Good for you.....you've nothing to lose and possibly everything to gain.

well tbf the only thing i may lose is any favours in the future, but its not a great loss really,

but rather there was the chance i may get something back from this
