New to the forum...need advice on a 2000 A6 4.2

Hello All, I'm new to the forum. I wanted to ask the experts in here on some advice. I was thinking about purchasing a 2000 A6 4.2 with 56K miles on it. How is the realiability of the vehicle? There is a engine cover missing and the engine sounded loud, is that normal? Would the engine cover really repress the engine sound that much? Any advice and opinions would be grealy appreciated.

Hello and welcome.
What do you mean by loud? Ihave a 1999 model with about the same milage and it is very quiet. Only when the engine is still cold you'll hear quite some mechanical noise, but about after a minute that's all gone and then it's a really quiet engine as you would expect from a V8.
the cover shouldn't make any difference. maybe try to find another 4.2 at a dealer and listen to that one.
