If you have a smell coming from your AC, then you need to get the whole system deodorised. Over time bacteria builds up on the heat exchanger causing the smell. this is then drawn in when the ac is turned on.
There are some aftermarket devices but i would suggest a trip to an AC specialist they have all the kit to do the job right.

Good advice thanks stimpy, think i'm going to try 1 of these diy kits from halfrauds : http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...165632#reviews

seen some good reviews around the net and only 12 to try it (compared to ac specialist ???)

if i were to change the pollen filter as well which 1 do i need?

message me your chassis number and i will have a look on Audi etka for you. It will give me the genuine part number but should be able to work out which from euro parts. Once i have got the part number it may be worth a call to Audi parts, surprisingly a lot of service parts have had their prices slashed for cars over 5 years old.

Thanks to Stimpy I've gone with the OEM pollen filter direct from local dealer, 21.82 (to me) for genuine Audi part seemed a fair price compared to 19.83 for EPC equivalent activated carbon filter.
Popped down to Halfrauds as well and they did a free aircon check which revealed that car has plenty of charge and ac should be fine, so seen as i saved 50-60 on top up I treated the system to a 'Comma' aircon cleaner spray to freshen it up and kill all the bugs; very easy to use and deffo freshens it up if maybe a bit strong (needs more time to ventilate but it started raining.
