Hi, I am new to the site and was looking for some advice please. I am of thinking of buying an Audi A6 Quattro 2.4 petrol Avant 2002 52 Reg with 64000 miles on the clock. Does anybody have any advice on what to look out for with this model, what there like to run e.t.c, any help would be much appreciated.

Also forgot to mention that I don't think cambelt has been changed yet, but have had a quote of £480
by a local specialist which I didn't think was to bad considering whats involved.

Regards

Colin

Probably best to post this in the A6 section mate, else it most likely won't get seen by anyone who can give you a useful reply...

Welcome anyway.

Do you have to buy 2.4 AND Q?

It's not really powerful engine for quite heavy chassis and Quattro.

If i were you i'd go for 2.8Q as those engines are much better performing with almost same petrol consumption. Forget 2.6 - similar to 2.4 takes alot of petrol without effect. Equipped in auto GB and it goes even worse.

All depends on you budget and purpose.

Maybe more details....

Hi etronic,

Its the 2.4 170bhp 5 speed manual with Audi fsh, always wanted a quattro, we go to Germany and Scotland at least once or twice a year
the car is priced at just over 4k but he hasn't had that much interest mainly due to the cam belt not being changed I think
also someone has said to me that these engines can be prone to oil leaks. Thanks for your help

Regards Colin

As for oil leaks it's true. In general petrol engines have tendency to have leaks.

My opinion is to leave 2.4 alone and get yourself 2.8 at least.

There is also TDI possibility. Quattro was in 155 and 180 BHP versions post 2002. Mileage will be higher but engines are far more long lasting than petrol ones.
You can also remap it and end up with quite powerful car with plenty of torque.
The only problem to avoid is CVT/ Multitronic GB. Don't even consider buying a car with this GB. It will hurt your pocket sooner or later due to well known reliability problems.

Thanks etronic I think I will follow your advice. Many thanks Colin
