A6 2.5 TDI Quattro - Roll back from hill start

Hi all,

a quick question. I have an A6 2.5 TDI Quattro Tiptronic. 2002.

Should I expect the car not to roll backwards when doing a hill start when in D?

Or is that the nature of the gearbox and should I be using the handbrake?

The car rolls backwards when on a hill start, I was expecting it to hold until I press the accelerator.

depends on the gradient, but yeah normally holds

On a slight gradient it creeps forward. On a steep one, like my drive, it rolls back.

Yep, thats exactly how mine is - and on a medium gradient it goes neither forward or back!
