S6 - dangerous driving?

Hi there - recently purchased a 2000 S6 and has gone fine until today.

While driving (and once in traffic) I got complete power loss from the accelerator. The car was revving fine, but when I put my foot down nothing happened. No increase in rpm, no noise and no fault warning from the vehicle system.

Warning lights burning on the dash from recollection was ABS, EPC and the ESC.

Switching off the car and switching it back on again appears to resolve the issue temporarily.
Sounds electrical to me but what I know about cars are scary

Any ideas – pretty dangerous and Audi can only look at the car next week!!!!!

I did a bit of research and read through various threads
It appears that it is possibly the throttle body position censor. If this is faulty the car goes into some sort of "safety mode" restricting power.

Any idea if this is a quick fix from the local gararge or is this for an audi specialist only

SAFE mode eh?? Doesnt sound that safe to me. Yor diagnosis is probably correct tho, damn DBW

It's "safe" mode because it's the ECU limiting performance to limit power and engine damage. EPC stands for something similar to Electronic Performance Control.

If the ECU becomes uncertain about the sensor inputs (TPS, temperature etc) it goes into EPC mode just to stop you breaking something. Get a dealer/friend with the diag tools to see what went wrong. The ECU should be able to tell you which sensor it didn't like.
