hello,

first post. i am going to have a look at a 2000 A6 4,2 quattro this afternoon which has had a replacement trip gearbox replaced. Is there anything i should look out for to make sure the box is ok, plus anything else to look out for on the car ?

thanks
neil

Hi Neil

Late reply I'm afraid - been away for the weekend so only just read your post. I've had a couple of A6s with Tiptronic boxes - neither have failed but on my first A6 (a 2.4 SE) the gear changes between 3rd and 4th, and between 4th and 5th were jerky at times, almost like the change was being forced. Used to really annoy me, but not any more as someone crashed in to it and it was written-off. The replacement (2.8 quattro) is much smoother. Get the codes pulled if you can, but don't worry about "00526 - Brake Light Switch-F 27-00 - Implausible Signal" as it's often there and isn't cause for concern (apparently).

How did you find the 4.2? I'm hoping to get one in the next 12 months, if I can find the right colour and spec.

Cheers - Graham
