Temperature Sensor 2.8 V6

Hi,

I have a 1999 2.8 V6 Quattro and my temperature gauge does not always work. As it is an intermitent problem I am guessing and hoping that it is simply a poor connection but am not sure where the sensor is located!!

Can anyone give me an idea where to start looking? I know the engine pretty well (due to cambelt snapping) but can't recall ever seeing the sensor.
