Playing CDs with MP3 Tracks - Audi A6

I have a 2006 Audi A6 2.0TDI with MMI Basic plus 6 changer CD and separate Sat Nav single slot all located in the Glovebox. The multichanger won't read CD-Rs with MP3 tracks. I am suprised by this given Vorsprung durch Technik and all that! I see the handbook refers to MP3 compatability - how do I make it work - can software be upgraded? I got the same problem. MP3's can't be played through that changer.
Kinda inferior considering the MMI SAT-NAV system

What can we do ??

Please don't recommend the Sony changer thingy or that contraption that hold 200 CDs worth of music.
