I bought a 2003 A6 3.0L about two weeks ago and discovered a problem with the steering. At first I thought it might be the Quattro drivetrain readjusting, but the issue seemed too severe to be normal. I read some posts online and believe that the problem stems from the 628 relay. As I make turns, both at high and low speeds, the steering has a heavy feel then suddenly drops to almost nothing. Several times on the freeway mid turn and next to pylons it really gave me a scare.
Any suggestions? (This is my wife's car and I do not want to remove the relay)
Is it possible to change the relay to the 605 and increase the assist? (My wife was injured and has a shoulder problem)
