Hi again

I bought my car from an Audi specialist with a basic warranty included. This has a low payout limit of £500. I'm considering buying a warranty from one of the online companies (warrantywise/warranty direct etc) Part of this is probably "forum paranoia" from reading posts about problem cars - turbo failures, wrecked tiptronic boxes at £thousands etc. But the peace of mind of a warranty will probably improve the pleasure of ownership.

Does anyone here have experience of expensive failures in 2.7Ts? My car's cambelt was done as part of the pre-purchase service.

Also, if anyone has personal experience (good or bad) of the warranty companies and can advise about pros/cons and recommend the better companies I would be grateful. I'm happy to recieve PMs.

Thanks in advance

Tim

I took out a warranty from Warranty works.

Very good on the phone called me back answered my questions and very quick to send out the paperwork. You can't transfer the policy to another car but you can transfer the ownership of the policy of you sell the car. (costs £25)
Pretty good price and seem to do full coverage policy. I have yet to use them for a claim, although looking at my latest post I might be about to.

Hi I had a 1999 S4 which uses basicallt the same engine as yours but with more power as standard. It had 87,000 miles on it & because it was well serviced it NEVER failed me. Turbo's were strong even after I had power boosted to approx 330bhp. Do your car a BIG favour though & service it with good oil & throw away the standard bosch plastic dump valves & buy some race spec items. Your turbo's will thank you for them. One last thing, drain the coolant out & put in silkolene coolant or mobil 1 it's not cheap but again well worth it in the long run. Look after your car & you won't have to worry about warranties which generally are never worth the paper they are writen on.

I bought an AA warranty for my previous A6 2.4 quattro tiptrinic when it went out of warranty and the price was about £450, half what Audi wnated for there extra year's warranty. It had an excess of £25.00 and Audi were able to bill the AA directly and I only had to pay the excess to the dealer. MY car was 3 and a half years old and 70000 miles when something went in the engine (piston related IIRC) and the bill after a week's work was £996.00! Even with only that one claim I saved myself over £500 with absolutely no hassle to myself. And, unlike daz944 was saying mu car was fully Audi serviced all its life, still went wrong, and the warranty was worth every penny! It is entirely up to yourself but I would always get an extended warranty now. Look at the AA website for their warranties. I think mine was the gold standard. Any questions then just pm me.

ok ok. With warranties it's a 50/50 deal. If your lucky enough to find someone who will ACTUALLY pay out on the warranty should you need it then great!! BUT if you get a warranty that doesn't pay out...... Then what, you try to take them through the courts? They can often afford better more expensive lawers than most people. Anyway, the choice is yours, & as I said it's a 50/50 risk that I choose not to take but who knows one day I may wish I had taken a warranty out.
