S6 gearbox jerk in in 1st - bad news?

I've seen a car for sale I quite fancy, but the seller says it jerks in 1st. Whether that's changing into or out of, it doesn't say.

I've had a 4.2 A6 previously, so am well aware of the documented issues with V8 C5's and their boxes, but am unsure if this is a symptom of a knackered box or not.

Have you got acces to vcds? it may be worth doing a throttle adaptation and a gearbox reset.

I would just look for a manual one, unless you're prepared to pay £1200 on a gearbox rebuild !

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum, just joined today, hurray!!!!!!! Bought an Audi S6 4.2 Avant Quattro, tiptronic, 1999 c5/4b, gear box code EUS/ECF. 84 k miles. Gear box in limp mode but reverses fine. Moves with a bang/surge when revved to 2000. I live in London SE15 and would appreciate any advice as to where to start or what to do. I want to fix car with a budget of £800-£1200 at the most but would want a specialist fix with guarantee. Please please please HELP!!!! I can provide my telephone for a chat.
