When i bought my allroad the Nav DVD was missing. So the dealer gave me a disc from a 2007 A4 RNS-E. I have noticed that the compass/road name is not displayed in the DIS like on other C5 and also the unit hisses a lot when i get in the car and turn off the ignition.

Is it possible that the 2007 A4 disc has altered some sort of coding and the unit isn't shutting down and not coded properly for the car and this is what's draining the battery?

It does sound like the can-bus wires are not connected or some how been disconnected. Do you know if the RNS-E was retrofitted or factory fit?

you need vcds to confirm, but if you are not getting information on the DIS and the radio is not switching off with the ignition then there is a can-bus problem.

Just for clarification it does show the navigation parts but only when in route guidance mode, other C5's i've seen show the road name and compass as an option on the DIS even when not using the route guidance at that time.

That's an option within the RNSE. You can enable it.

The cooling fans on my sat nav plus run for a time after shut down, you don't hear them when the engine is running but do once you turn off the engine. They only run for a short time, a minute or so max I would guess.
