brake pad question

im replacing the brakes on my audi and the pads that sit in the pistons has arrows on them, but what do the arrows mean... indication as to right or left, ie pad with arrow pointing right goes on the driver side and vice versa or is it an indication to wheel rotation? probs a school boy question, but you never know

direction of revolution of wheel ie pad arrow should face direction of revolution

i thought so, but directional from when pad is actually in place yeah?
