Noise from n/s/f and decat

Hi all, I've had an annoying noise from the front of my 2001 2.5 tdi for ages.
Driving me up the wall, no play in any joints, nothing worn.
Was running out of ideas, decided to take glove box out, glad I did! The noise was the fan in its bearing, had axial play. So chuffed to find it!
Also, decided to decat it, results are a bit more responsive, bit of smoke on heavy acceleration but not noisier!
Will see how mpg is affected, was getting 42-50 depending on journey.

Hi Im just about to knock my cat out on my 1999 advent 2.5 tdi as it has been feeling under powered since I got it.
after reading some chat on here I took my inlet manifold off, boy im glad I did,
it was full of horrid sticky soot lots of it too.
so I have a feeling the cat will be the same.
fingers crossed this will give me some power back..
