Hi everyone - it's been a long time!

Has anybody had experience of a whirring noise when the compressor is running? This is noticeable from inside the car when it's warm and goes away when I switch to economy (compressor off).

Any ideas?

Thanks peeps

Best regards,
Steve

Hi, if the noise goes when the compressor is off then I would suggest a bearing issue with the compressor..is it still in warranty???

Just read the Bentley manual re: compressor noise. Some refrigerant shock may be heard when braking or cornering if the system is over full. Mine hasn't been opened to my knowledge but can the gas expand over time causing excess pressure?

I doubt it very much...air con gas will loose pressure over time, and the usual symtom of this is inop. aircon.
There is a pressure sensor which monitors the pressure, if it sences low pressure then it won't allow the compressor to run...maybe worth looking in the yellow pages for a car air con specialist, it will be cheaper than an audi centre..good luck

Sounds like the compressor is starting to fail, mine did a similar thing on start up, noise stopped after 30-40 seconds, or if I switched air con off .
Ebay is at times a good source, I have seen them for under £200 but you have to check the part numbers.
