PRNDS Lights and auto

For a week now all the PRNDS lights keep coming on together for a few seconds, and then off for approx for 10mins. Not really bothered me up till today when i had to call out AA. As i slowed down to a stop a judder starts in the gear stick area, as if i was driving a manual and was stopping without using the clutch. it disapears if i put it into N. it starts ok and ticks over ok.
i can drive it away and the judder goes, until i slow down again to stop.
this is my first auto and i am completely baffled.
any ideas please.

Just got word from Audi. New gearbox is needed. £5000.00 Geeez. Lost for words.
Been on net. Typed in multritonic liked you said. Didn't realise Audi had a problem with these boxes. After pointing out that Audi hadn't changed ATF properly. i.e. at 52k instead of 40k and 87k instead of 80k, they reduced price of new gearbox, fitted, to £3500.00.

not sure where you are in the UK but Indie-tech in milton keynes are multibox specialists...
They maybe a bit cheaper than Audi..

A few questions:

- How old is the car?
- Did you buy it from Audi as approved used?
- Has it only ever been serviced by Audi (or more specifically the gearbox)?

If it has always been serviced by Audi, you might be able to get more of a reduction if you keep at them.

The gearbox was touted as a technological marvel when it came out. Audi also market themselves as a premium brand, meaning that you have a fair and reasonable expectation of reliability. Similarly, the gearbox should be a lifetime part (certainly in excess of 100,000 miles in any event). Lastly, £5000 for the replacement gearbox is a ridiculous price, and there is no danger the original part cost that much to install in the factory (between 15% and 20% of the original value? - no chance). On this basis, you might be able to build a case in a court to force Audi to carry out repairs at a far reduced cost, or even ex gratia.

In the end, you would only need to successfully demonstrate that the failure of the gearbox and it's subsequent repair cost are "unreasonable", in the legal sense.

I have heard of people getting the repair carried out for free by simply threatening this, so it's definitely worth a shot!

Hi all
Thanks for all replying to thread. Had a go at the dealer, but to no avail. in the end had to fork out £3500 to get new gearbox, ouch. Now i have an electrical problem...........bulb check light on rear offside light cluster. Intermittantley it comes on telling me brake, signal and reversing bulbs are out............they are indeed out. but if i switch off ignition and leave for a little while, all is ok. might not do it again for an hour or a few days. Weird. i'm thinking and earth problem. i have checked light cluster but no signs of bad connection. can't find were the earth point is. i really need a wiring diagram (i'm a sparks by trade, not auto) but haynes don't do one for A6.

Finally, i have sorted problem on my rear cluster. It was the earth pin in the end, so i just twisted it slightly so it would make better contact.
