I was thinking of getting my auto gearbox oil changed, I have a 3.0TDI avant 2005 with 76,000 miles on the clock and I find conflicting info. Some say it is lifetime...and some say change around now. Lifetime seems to still mean a time scale but keen to know other peoples stories and if there is anything to watch out for when doing it as the garage I'm going to use it not an Audi specialist.

no one on here has changed their gearbox oil?? surely not!

I'm about to get mine done on my A4.
120k on the same oil and oil filter can't be good for any box.
Its worth getting it changed.

I'm not sure what to look out for and I'm a little unsure on how to do it.
I'm currently looking for some information on this. I've found out one bit of information and its that Audi uses a special tool to remove the but for the fill hole.
I'm about to fire up ElsaWin and see what that says. If you give me some time i'll take a look at the A6 for you as well.

thanks! I"ve had a quick look already and it says how to do it but I was just seeing if anybody had done it as some people say its got lifetime oil??

I had mine changed at 40,000 as per service book.

you must have multitronic...mine is tiptronic, different schedules I think.

I have a 3.0 TDI Allroad and it has just been in for a service and I was told that it has been oiled for life!

Beware, before I spoke with the Master Tech at the garage the 'customer care manager' gave me a price for the oil and I nearly fell through the floor.

so you didn't change gearbox oil??
