1999 A6 1.8T Coolant Temp Gauge Problem

Hi Guys, just after a little help here.

When i turn on my ignition the temp guage picks up a reading, but as i drive it drops down to 60 degrees as though it is not working?
I have also noticed that the oil temp gauge doesn't move either.

Today i changed the coolant temp sensor but the problem is still there. I can keep my foot on the accellerator and the gauge will go up to 80+ degrees, but once i release the accellerator it will return to 60 degrees?

I have bought a thermostat but havn't got round to fitting it yet. Do you think this may fix the problem, or could it be electrical?

I would suspect the stat.

Thermostat fixed the problems guys thanks.
Both the coolant and oil gauges now opperate as they should.
