I currently have a 2003 A4 2.4SE (B6 model), which has belt-driven camshafts.

I'm contemplating buying a 2005 A6 2.4SE (C6 model), and have been told that this version of the engine has chain-driven camshafts.

Can anyone confirm whther this is true or not?

Thanks in advance.

Most likely it will have cambelt but you should get a engine code just to double check. Will it be the c5 or the c6 model ? The quad cam engines have chain tensioners inside the heads to allow for the variable valve timing but the engine is still cambelt driven... The 3.0L petrol engines are also quad cams but they have 4 sprockets on wich the belt go as well so no more VVT but these engine are direct injection and as such they can inject fuel in multiple squirts inside the cylinder just like the TDI engines do...

Update

I've just spoken to two different Audi dealers, given them the registration number of the specific car and they have both independently confirmed that the camshafts are chain-driven, not belt-drive, so no replacement necessary.
