What have I got? - 1997 A6, Bose sound system

I have a 1997 registered A6, 2.4 petrol, 5 speed Tiptronic box, 2WD.

Except.. Wikipedia says the Tiptronic only came out on the A6 C5, which wasn't launched until 1998. So is this a C4 or C5? How can I be certain?

Also, it has a Concert radio/tape player with a CD changer in the boot. It's definitely a Bose system, with a sub in the boot, but I've seen conflicting info about the various Bose options it might be - so how can I tell if it's rear speakers only or all speakers? Were those options separated in time or were they both available on a car of this age?

I want to replace the head unit with an ISO fitting one (with preamp and sub outputs on phono plugs) - which adaptor lead do I need. Again there seem to be loads of choices with not very clear descriptions at Autoleads.
