Good idea for thread
I did get around 30ish around town and on 10 mile run to work and back on country lanes. On a motorway run 33-37, 37 only if if kept to 70mph, but after reading some info just re-fitted undertrays, which weren't fitted when I got the car and now everything improved.
Getting a couple of mpg more on work run but on long motorway run getting 37-39 so feel was worth fitting undertrays.
All figures from DIS - can't be bothered with any more complicated calculations!
Engine is standard AKE in Avant SE and manual with 142k.
I get 29 mpg round town and 32 mpg on a motorway run whilst towing a Iffor williams 2.7 Tonnes trailer often loaded with cars over 1 tonne. That's in a w reg a6 allroad manual wich is shy of 2 tonnes on its own ! I only use the car for towing so i believe the overall mpg will increase a little if unloaded but i drive other cars on a regular basis...

adamss24, is it 4 wheel drive i.e. quattro? they seem like good figures for a quattro...
Yes mate, all allroads had a quattro drivetrain...

Sorry, ment Inskip75 as he says Avant which is the estate....I know all Allroad a Quattro LOL....just cut and pasted the wrong id.
I also find I get better MPG if I use the tiptronic rather than auto mode...

Rossy - sorry should have said it is a quattro - although adamss24 has already confirmed this. Gentle right foot when required and cruise on m'way - redlined in 3rd and 4th once a weekish to keep clean![]()
Got to be honnest I did not know that the AKE 180 was only fitted to Quattro's...well there you go...
Just having a nightmere fitting bottom arms....the two nuts are differant as some of you may know...you can guess were this is going...the nut for the balljoint I fitted to the bolt and vice versa...and the nut for the balljoint has a reses in it so it was knocking...LOL
I get high 40s nearly always around 500-530 from a tank on mix driving 147500 miles, on motorway sit about 80mph
WOW that the best I've heard of!!! 2.5 TDI 180?
gental right foot, don't boot it just use the tourque and change up early![]()
Excellent mpg - even if i'm gentle and cruise at 80 still only get 37-38mpg - is yours completely standard?
We used to get 32mpg according to the DIS in our old allroad. That was mainly the misses driving to work & back on back country roads & she drives slow, couldn't get it any higher that that.
Audi S6 Avant 4.2 V8 Quattro 340bhp, 19" OEM RS6 alloys, running on LPG.
filled mine up and worked it out last night, based on half driving across town and one long 200mile motorway/A road trip I averaged 32mpg, i don't hang about mind so not too bad
A6 Avant 2.5tdi Quattro Sport 220bhp 458Nm 6 speed Manual
Not had it that long but been on UK holidays so clocked up over 1k miles that fortnight alone! Been mainly using tip rather than full auto getting 34mpg on clear motorway / a roads (cant keep speed down lol) 37 on busier motorway & A road run (so speed lower) and 25 back to work / urban / stop start. Tried vpower for couple fills and it did make a slight difference, but it is more expensive, found on fuelprice site alocal total where excellium not much more than regular so may give that a go next.
When i first got my allroad a few years ago the best i got was 530miles (36mpg combined) to a tank of ordinary diesel. She would start almost telepathically as soon as i turned the key and I would lug the engine everywhere keeping the engine in max torque band (1800rpm). Car came with genuine Audi cams, AKE turbo, etc.
After various garages have had their evil way with her after having the top end re-built with aftermarket cams, etc, dynamic tuning way out, Castrol 5w40 TDI Edge, 2-stroke oil in fuel, cleaned intakes, genuine MAF, engine flush, new air/oil/fuel filter, reconditioned injectors, *S model turbo, new coolant temperature sensor (green), new thermostat, new water pump, 75w90 (??) gearbox and diff lube i average around 430-ish miles to a tank (combined 28.8mpg). Only a slight haze when i mash the accelerator.
I don't lug the engine as much (bad for oil pressure and oil starvation) and i'm convinced the cams are the wrong profile, turbo isn't right and the pump timing is still out. It doesn't start as ferociously as it used to and seems to run out of puff above 3500rpm. Lots still to sort out. Hope to pull the heads off, port and match to gaskets, etc. genuine cams, bigger turbo with bigger nozzles, re-map and see what happens (with Chris' help of course).
WOW! if your local would love to see this car...after new belts and everything else that involves front end off I'm now getting around 24-25mpg tootling around so not much over 40mph. One cam was out apparently, so better than the 16 I was getting!!
Turbo Force Turbo and Tuning Box are the only mods...did have a filter and loved the turbo noise...for about 2 weeks then it got on my wicks a bit and the comments (sounds like a tracktor) didn't help.....tuning loads of Petrol Turbos but this being the everyday driver....subtle...
