    What do you hate???

Lets just say it could have been much worse than this! I got away lightly and thankfully the wheel will be back fully refurbished tomorrow night. Pulled into a car park, as I went through the ticket gate a 'person' in a C-Max pulled out of their space. I swerved left to avoid them and hadn't cleared the entrance kerbs when I did. Thankfully they didn't hit me and were very apologetic, but needless to say the air was blue in the car when I got to a parking space. The next day it was in Swindon being fully refurbed for £105.

Bugger Warren, really feel your pain. So far (and I know this is the kiss of death) I've managed to avoid kerbing mine... But I dread it...

Brian Clements says I'm the only customer he has had to date who doesn't kerb his wheels. I've only curbed one previously reversing out of a car park in Strasbourg (that was full) and I had to reverse out of a curved 90 degree entry with high kerbs. I just caught the rear wheel a couple of days after having a full shadow chrome refurb on a set of 19's I had on my first S3. Other than that I've not had any issues, but the spacers do make the wheels very prone to kerning. The sound turns your stomach! I couldn't get out of the car for about 5 minutes as I couldn't bare the thought of looking at it. I was late for my hair appointment as I had to calm myself!

There seems to be a new trend following on from the new S1's Quattro side badging: ‘quattro’ Script. Everyone’s Doing it in Ingolstadt. - Fourtitude.com

Not sure the sleek S5 would carry this off, so I'm going to leave that one to the Germans.

I prefer the side badges to the Front and rear quattro ones that seem to be popping up! Reminds me of the FN2 Type R Decals in the same place on the one we had.........

I did my 2 rotors at the same time sodding NCP car parks !! narrow exit/entry with 2 ft high kerbs.......... not good at all, at least I've got the winter 8j Rotors to fall back on, although not much use if i scrape a front 8.5j !!!!

I've often wondered how controllable it would be reversing slightly up into my garage , between 2 brick pillars, but hadn't anticipated any niggles in the forward direction!
I have to sometimes reverse mine up a gravel drive, with a car parked at the top and a wall on the other side. It is a squeeze to drive down let alone reverse back up, but I have no issue with the S-Tronic. You can always use the manual handbrake or hill assist

Oh jeeeeeeeeeeeeeez .... I hoped you just had the wheel off for cleaning or something !

Sorry it has been kerbed and yeah - many years since I have done it myself - but know what you mean about the horrible noise ... can TOTALLY sympathize with you not wanting to get out and look, yeah can really relate to that.

They are easily mended though aren't they albeit it does cost you 100 sheets !

I am also like you though and would need it doing immediately lol

    re Quattro decals ....

Hmm ... Whilst I think they look fine on say a Civic Type R ... I would not want them on my S5 or an S3 ... and I also really dislike the Audi cars which have the 'in ya face' Quattro plastered all over the front end in MASSIVE letters ... its just too brash for me.

A nice subtle S or RS nose and rear badge are fine IMO

I've had two kerbed alloys on my current B7.

    1) Swerving to avoid white van man in my own street!
    2) Swerving to avoid woman heading straight for me in the middle of a bridge. Here in fact https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.40...pE6Eea6XCQ!2e0

You can see the road is wide enough and yet she was slap, bang in the middle of it, bombing along. Not that I'm bitter and remember exactly where it happened or anything.

    The kerbed wheel saga

Once upon a time in a bad place called a car park, designers had done their utmost to ensure that kerbs were as awkward and unfriendly as possible. As cars get larger and larger why would you want space or manoeuvrability in a place where you are trying to park a rather large car at a 90 degree angle to the flow of traffic, or where pedestrians are walking alongside the parked cars (let alone where people might just pull out on you). Anyway the damage was done, and we ended up with a pristine 5 day old 19" diamond cut rotor reduced to this sorry looking state:

Thankfully after much scouring of t'interweb I found a fairly local wheel specialist called Platinum Alloy wheels who could repair diamond cut alloys. There seemed to be fairly universal praise of their services so I put my faith in them and called up the same hour of the incident to get it booked in.

In case you ever have the misfortune to need their services: Alloy Wheel Refurbishment, Alloy Wheel Repair, Bristol, Swindon, Oxford

So I drop it in Monday morning 8am, and by Friday lunchtime I get the call its ready. Initially I'd been quoted £75 as it was 'light' damage and they thought they may be able to repair without stripping the entire wheel. Turns out this is not the case as they would end up with a colour differential on the flat lacquer so the whole wheel had to be done and it elevated the cost to £111.60, not that I cared as I just wanted it right. To fill all you rotor owners with comfort and confidence they report the rotor alloy is one of their most repaired alloy wheel styles at present due to them being one of the few diamond cut specialists in this area.

When I arrived there were actually quite a few main dealer cars on site, including another A5 which was having all it's wheels sorted:

So what's it look like then:

To be honest it's probably the best wheel of the 4 now in terms of finish and quality. The others don't look quite so good in the lacquer. Thankfully it looks very faithful to the original colour so no complaints there, and it's nice to look like I have three wheels on the car. Someone in a Peugeot (a young kid) actually took a photo of the back of the car whilst I was driving in and was pointing out with visual delight to his mother that I had a bike tyre on one side and a car tyre on the other (or that's what it looked like he was pointing out before the photo!).

So the good news is I now have 4 wheels on my wagon, and I can finally drive somewhere over 50mph again!

For completeness here is a copy of the bill (personal details removed) to give you an indication of costs etc. (and so you don't think I make this stuff up for a bit of a story and some sympathy - although any donations will be gratefully accepted!).

Glad you got it sorted and it looks so good! I've left my damaged 17" winter wheel in for repair to my local shop, it's painted so it should be a straightforward job.
Good to see that they can be repaired. Not that I plan to kerb them but I've had two mishaps over the last 5 years with the BMW 19s..

On the quattro decals front, I had been pondering the graduated 4 rings for the front doors. Had these on my white 80 Sport many years ago and quite liked them, but maybe the A5 won't suit them?

Looks like a good finish, certainly from the photo's looks as OEM. Will bear these guys in mind if I ever have the misfortune to kerb one (or more!) of mine... Certainly helps to know that there are people that can do a decent repair, seen mixed opinions on repairability of the rotors so good to see some actual evidence of their work.

    Happy days again!

It's a tough call, but when I had the V6T badges off the car looked so good smooth that I think the more you add the less 'good' the effect of the design. I like the idea of it but I think the S5 is a 'less is more' sophisticated kind of car. On something a bit more bonkers I think you could carry it off.

Just done this little mod courtesy of Dannykn9 who ironically bought the spacers off of my S3!

Guide To Mod Your Audi Locking Nut Covers to Fit Mcgard Locking Bolts or Similar!!

The McGard locking bolts that you need to use with spacers have a much smaller diameter head than the OEM one so the original bolt won't fit. I had a spare pair of the locking nut caps in the garage and can confirm it worked a treat so if you go down this route you'll probably want to consider this mod.

Maybe its what is causing the problem with the 98 RON fuel if it's really cutting back on the mapping characteristics because it is a bag of ****e set up.I only used it as it might help encourage me to be slow on the space saver. I know it hasn't got selective cylinder shutdown but it almost feels like it runs on 2 cylinders with it!

37.1mpg... impressive! I've managed mid-30's according to the trip computer when running in. Much like you I used efficiency most of the journey as I was trying to be good. But now it just feels weird, like someone has dropped a 1-litre engine in there. Very strange pushing the pedal and not getting much in return...

As for the misfire, I'm sorry to say it's not something I've had/noticed on mine. Always used either Shell V-power opti-turbo-super-duper-max-plus or recently a tank full of BP Ulitmate, but no noticeable difference between the two. The reason for the temporary BP defection was I heard it was rumoured to be E0 but I'll be damned if I can tell the difference (and suspect it's not true anyway) so switched back to Shell as I've swallowed their marketing hype, sorry research. Mainly on the basis that there must be 'extra stuff' in it. On the basis of around a fiver a tank I'm not worried about the cost.

I may have missed it but can you expand on the symptoms? For what it's worth on startup from cold mine starts at higher RPM but once in gear that drops and when warm and stationary just drops to idle. I'll try and keep an eye out for any dipping by 50rpm but it's not something I've noticed so far.

Just a thought, is yours one of the improved efficiency maps? Might only be MY2015 but seem to recall they had added some MPG to the official figures, perhaps that is causing it. If you are concerned you are welcome to come across (or we can meet in the middle) to compare notes if it would help.

Oh and one more thing, on the fuel cap mine says the same thing about 95 RON, but oddly when logged into 'MyAudi' and listing the specs of the car it has a line that reads: "Fuel quality 98 RON", that's under "Details & equipment" -> "Technology and safety" (the second one!).

I'm sure that doesn't mean anything but thought I'd put the cat amongst the pigeons anyway...

On a car with 400 odd miles on the clock I hope not, but I will data log it this weekend with VCDS for misfires and fuel requested vs. actual.

Tonight I'm going to dilute down the Optimax with 95RON and see if it makes any difference. Let's hope I done become the next ||Ben!

Actually I hope that you DO and really soon... at least then it will be before remap and fully covered under warranty.

    Check out the exhaust pipe!

RS4 B8 in custom Cherry Black (Aston Martin paint), with cream extended leisure pack, ceramics and toys.

Paint was awful, DMC are working miracles on it given the state of it. Went to pick up my grit guards and got to see / listen to its amazing tick over soundtrack.

the misfires could be due to a bad batch of fuel; we had a TTRS in work the other week that jumped 30hp after a fuel flush and fresh tank of vpower nitro+ !

Are you getting any EML when you experience the misfires?

I wasn't sure I liked the colour under the workshop lights. Looked great in natural light though.

No EML, just incredibly hesitant intermittently at idle. Since putting 95 in it seems to have improved a bit.

Personal view I didn't like it. Too brown for my tastes. Bramleys are supposed to be a premium dealership yet still they only have a Brillo and some Ajax liquid for cleaning.

I also don't like the Cherry Black! Glad you got your wheel sorted Warren - it's horrible when that kind of thing happens especially when the car is brand new! At the moment I'm kind of keeping away from anywhere I think could damage the wheels... Can't avoid those places forever though!

We were discussing car cleaning a few posts ago well .......

cleaned mine friday evening - it then pi$$ed it down saturday morning so all hard work undone !

Re-cleaned it yesterday as it was a lovely sunny day.

Now it has just pi$$ed it down like we are in the Amazon jungle with hail stones the size of small ice cubes FFS !
