    Yep LED rear number plate lights on my pup too (and footwell)

    at night, illuminates the estroil paint beautifully

    It's a bit of a mixed bag as we get no LED's in the upper part of the interior cabin, but the S5 cab gets LED overhead cabin lights, so I assumed we probably wouldn't get any at all (inc. rear no. plate bulbs). Glad as it save me another expense.

    Sorted out the interior light kit from Trups to work out what went where, and it seems to stack up like this:



    Proof of the pudding will be in the testing.

    Has anyone else actually fitted one of these yet, and if so did it take long? Takes about 45 minutes in S3 but there are less lights.

    Warren the only thing that would stop me from going for the LED kit would be the worry that they would be too bright/intrusive inside the cabin. Have you seen pictures with the kit installed?

    I have.

    The ones which can be bright are the dome lights, but you can angle the LED board away from 'downward' to an angle to limit the intensity of the light spray. We did this on our S3 and there was enough reflective surface in the overhead cabinet to create a reasonably decent lighting effect.

    I see what you're saying, don't want to look like Close Encounters of the Third Kind UFO every time you turn up somewhere at night (another movie reference there for you Snake!)

    As I was locked in a boarding school for most of the 80's my 80's TV/Film knowledge is poor (other than the stuff that gets played on TV every Xmas) as we were only allowed to watch news at night, then TV on Sunday afternoon. Music knowledge is thankfully better!

    Can't even hazard a guess I'm afraid!

    I see we got a bit off track :P

    Today I took my colleague out for a drive for a few minutes. Each time I put my foot down he kept saying "slow! slow! slow! slow!" - he was scared because of the sheer acceleration of this beast. Launch control scared the sh*t outta him :P

    (All of this on a private, empty road, of course ... )

    I would have said A5 3.0 TDI for the comfortable long distance cruiser though :P

    Wish I was, everything used to work properly in those days!

    Every time I turn on the news it constantly bangs on about the 'younger' generations not being able to get work / get on housing ladder / get any money / won't ever be able to pay off student loans etc...., yet the amount of sub-30's on here and other forums have some monumentally good cars. When I was that age I was hooning about in just about MoT legal shat hatches with about 6 previous owners!!!!

    Really pleased for you guys that can do it as I'd loved an S5 or equivalent (probably an E46 M3 back in the day) but just goes to show that the national news isn't completely 'on key' with it's message. Good on you, keep at it!

    Guys, question please... How long do I need to run the engine in really? Apparently I will 'feel' when it loosens up? I didn't even know it was tight :P Any advice please?

    As you're just a young pup () the run in period is about 10 years. Honest...

    Oh OK, to quote the manual it's actually 1500km run in period, and for the first 1000km you should not exceed 2/3 of max revs, in between those two it says "you can gradually increase the engine RPM and road speed."

    I suspect this is as much for general drive train run in as anything else. Chances are you could drive it fairly hard from new and probably be alright as there is bound to be some margin in there but I'd always follow the manual for the simple reason that if, say, within the first 1000km you red line it and something fails there's always the possibility Audi wouldn't honour the warranty.

    lol @ young pup. Don't worry, I never drive like a fool :P

    Ok so 620 miles until I can rev to 3000... I'm already at 430 miles. Don't ask me how! Not long to go before I can 'gradually increase engine RPMs to 3,000!'

    I bloody well hope so! It'll at least be sensibly between 3000 and 4000. When I want sportier gear changes without really high revs, my engine shifts up at around 3200.

    Another couple of questions :P

    1) Tempted to get crystal lacquer protection from GemClean - is it worth the crazy money? (Warren I picked this suggestion from your waiting thread I think...)

    2) Also from Warren's waiting thread... Tempted to have the car remapped - not only for the performance but also for the increased economy. I usually use a reliable guy up in Bristol... But I've seen that Revo video and its so impressive. So my question... for just s standard remap, changing nothing else, are they all the same? Or is a company like Revo going to be able to offer something that few other companies can?

    I used GemClean (assuming it's the same one - Michael Hobbs in Maidenhead?) so would vouch for the quality of the work. It's not cheap, but it does work. Is it worth it? Perhaps a bit more subjective, I feel it is/was but I know Warren is going with DMC so they might be worth a shout too. I get the feeling that now Michael's well established he's perhaps on the pricier side but as I said I'd vouch for his enthusiasm in what he does.

    If you want I can PM you what he did for me and send me you the link, or find the S5 in his albums on Facebook.

    Pre-empting Warren on 2) I think he likes Revo's way of doing business and although I've never been brave enough to go for a remap they are a company I've always been tempted by. I think Warren likes the driveability etc, but sure he can give a better review than me. That video though... think it is mainly just he map and pulley upgrade and look what it unlocks!

    Indeedy I do buy the Revo philosophy but I can appreciate others can offer similar deals.

    You know about Revo, but also look into MRC as they provide a competitive alternative. Once I get my car sorted I have a mate (JayGemson on here) who has Stg2 MRC and we're looking to do a comparison on the 2 cars.

    I wouldn't look to rush into anything if I were you, do your research and find a reasonably local tuner that suits your needs. Even basic stage 1 makes a huge difference as the car is definitely dialled back to fit into the VAG hierarchy.

    Yep we are talking about the same GemClean - I've seen the pictures of the S5 he worked on - didn't know it was yours! I spoke to him and he says that with the crystal lacquer protection it will look that good for the whole time I own the car after just a simple wash. It's an attractive prospect...

    As I mentioned I have a guy in Bristol who has done my last 2 cars and obtained fantastic results. He got a 2.0 A3 TDi from 140 > 200bhp and my E92 from 204 > 298bhp with fantastic torque suited to the way I wanted to drive the car. I would definitely trust him with my S5 but I just wonder if those kind of results can be obtained by anyone really - or if not anyone then anyone good at this stuff. Revo's price for their Stage I is £999 - I just don't understand why there is such a huge price difference when the performance figures quoted are pretty much the same...

    Yep it's mine! To my eternal shame (it's my baby daughters fault!) I never keep on top of it as much as I should but you can see as soon as you start to wash it that it is noticeably easier to clean. As you will have seen from the pic's the dealership (or someone prior to delivery) had made a right hash of 'washing' it, was mortified at first and imagined it would never come out.

    Thankfully it did but it was a worrying (in the first world sense) few days. It might also be why Warren has insisted they don't touch it, I think he's allowing them to peel the protective sheets off but that's about it!

    Anyone from the dealers who touches the paint pre-delivery will wake up with a horses head in their bed (I'm in the right part of the country for that).

    Be careful when speaking to Gemclean about money. I was going to use them but the approach of 'how much money can you afford to spend' sales pitch pushed me over the edge. I kept asking for a defined product cost for various service offerings and he kept telling me that if I gave him the maximum budget I had he'd give me the best service he could for that money. He's a nice enough chap, his work from viewing Shrek's car is first rate, but having worked in the sales arena in the past there are some sales tactics that don't wash with me and as a result I ended up going to DMC who gave me 3 service offerings.

    I chose the most appropriate based on my ongoing needs (e.g. an annual detail with 6 monthly deep clean), it was as simple as that. You may want to prepare a better response in case you get the same service response (where as I just shrugged and went local).

    I'll just add that I think Michael is quite an energetic and enthusiastic person, and can end up talking a bit too much, so I can understand why Warren felt as he did having spoken to him. As an opinion I don't think he was attempting to rip you off/pull the wool over your eyes - but totally understand (and can imagine) how the conversation went the way it did for you.

    Adam, if it's not too far for you to travel DMC sounded good from Warren's dealing and I would certainly look into them next time I'm after a detail, provided they don't use brillo pads on Warrens car...

    I'd agree, I didn't feel like he was trying to fleece me at all, I just felt like after using the Paxman tactic I still wasn't getting the answer I wanted so decided to try an alternative. Looking at the work they do on their FB page their work is second to none, and I'd rather have used the G-Techniq product given the choice.

    Maybe in a few months - its such a great car as it is. I'm sure I will make it insane but after a while :P let me get used to shelling out twice the amount of money for fuel first!

    I'll tell you what - the A5 TDI engines are great but no matter what TDI you're coming from - even if it has all the torque in the world - can't compare to the engine noise and feeling you get when you're driving the S5...

    This is very true, I always used to say that the 3.0TDi was all the real world power you needed and whilst that is still basically my opinion the S5's Supercharged V6 is actually a big step up, certainly much more than I was expecting. It still catches me by surprise occasionally when I put my foot down in Dynamic.

    Agree with Shrek ... Dynamic can be quite ferrocious at times especially if you in 2nd gear crawling and then floor it it can take off like a rocket

    Question for you guys with estoril paint ...

    Are you getting many chips on the bonnet ?

    I have a few now & a 'little' concerned this may be one of the reasons Audi ceased estoril if it does chip easily ?

    Any thoughts / feedback on your paintwork Guys ?

    Not a significant number, although annoyingly I did pick a nasty one up in the first week! Used the Chipex stuff to repair and it's good enough that your eye isn't drawn to it, although if you know where to look you can obviously see it.

    I haven't noticed, nor heard of a particular problem with the Estoril chipping, mainly just that either it's a pain to paint with or that the supplier went bust.

    Although it would be nice to have a reasonably good source as to why Audi made it such as short-lived colour as there is that nagging doubt at the back of my mind!

    They're all as bad Snake, my Panther was like a pin cushion. Dark colours are terrible at highlighting as it goes down to bare metal. Silver is king for masking stone chips but hides 'S' mirrors. Hard to know whether to 3M clear wrap, Chipex or respray every 3-4 yrs.

    Sounds relatively normal then & maybe I've just been unlucky or it's the norm ... Can't recall my tts in Panther black being too bad though ... Maybe the shape of the front end / bonnet contributes too as the tt was quite rounded.

    The estoril is dark though so chips are spotted straight away.

    What is the chipex thing guys - assume a touch up stick and if so where can I get one ?

    Anyway you can find more info on Chipex here and, as said, I found it pretty good on the stone chip I picked up.
