Audi RS5 stock V RS5 with optional sports exhaust

Does anyone know if there are any power/performance advantages with the sports exhaust over the stock item/

I have heard rumours that GMBH are claiming 20 BHP, any truth or an urban myth?

DP's on Audi's seem to be restrictive, and whether this is to make the cars quieter or for some other reason????

I know the S3 is a completely different piece of kit to an RS5, but this photo is purely to provide some context:

    OEM pipe right, aftermarket left.

Now I appreciate the S3 running high boost will see significant benefits from the bigger bore pipe, but if the RS5 DP's have similar restrictions you'd have to say double digit BHP gains are a possibility.

It's the DP & cats which offer the vast majority of the gains, so you can run OEM cat back and still get good performance on our cars, but if you can stretch to RS car then I'd just suggest doing the whole thing as it will sound stunning and will only add to the great package you already have.

    Warren,

I currently run an RS-5 with the Audi optional sports exhaust and have driven a couple with stock exhausts, the stock models sound tame when compared, especially with the downshift kicks in and on the overun.
The sport exhaust is a £1000 option, but my dealer could not offer me any details on what you get for your bucks over standard.

I'll be honest mate, I'm really disappointed by Audi's knowledge in UK dealers. They rely on the cars selling themselves, they know very little about their products and my dealer had no idea the RS3 car was even on the horizon some time after it had been out in the press.

It's why so many of us rely so heavily on aftermarket tuners, but with a high end RS you'd expect there to be a specialist point of contact who could advise with respect to enhancements. But no, whether you spend £15k or £150k you are doing well if you can meet someone who can fulfil the basic expectations of the common sales process. Might be worth calling Audi HQ in MK for more details or a tech data sheet.

I totally agree. When I was on the RS5 waiting list, I found out more from the auto press on expected release dates than the dealer could provide. In actual fact I was telling THEM what was going on with production. Exactly the same regarding the recent facelift. Useless!

I've no doubt that Audi dealers are probably the last to find out what's going on from the parent company, but surely if it was your JOB, wouldn't you keep your finger on the pulse rather than wait for customers to tell you what you should already know?! I'd be embarrassed!

Been in touch with Audi UK regarding details of the sports exhaust, they told me initially that the sports exhaust has black tips and the original has chrome tips and the sports exhaust is slightly louder, no **** sherlock!

Any way after countless phone calls, they refused to send me a data sheet of any type with technical details, but they did speak with someone from engineering who reliably informed me that they have flaps within the exhaust that open and close, i honestly think they deal with women or numpties who have no engineering background, after a few more irrate calls, it appears that the exhaust has more flaps than are visible through the back boxes and as the car is driven these flaps modulate to give the enhanced sound of the sports exhaust.
That is about as much as i could take at this point but i was told to log into their website and i could view (for a price) all the data.

Unless you have a username and password (and you're an Audi technician presumably) you can't?
