I've been offered a metallic blac a4 tdi to keep my quarter million mile audibus company outside the house........Its the same year 98 (R) Not sure if its a 90 or 110 but its moted until wednesday and has enough tax to get me home.
I've managed to haggle a bargain knockdown price of £70!!!!!!!!! :sly:
The only real issues that it has (that I now of) are

It struggled with the emmisions last MOT

and

above 60 mph she cuts out?????:tapedshut:

Are these terminal engine problems? OR could it be a simple sensor failure????

If its only the smoke test it fails on I'm gonna do an engine swap from my own tdi as its apparantly ver very tidy.

Might even think about making it look a bit smarter (more up to date) while I'm there OR I might just break it up for bits

Thanks for any help again fellas.....

emmisions will most likey be the cat on it's way out. Cutting out at 60, could be a clogged cat, fuel filter, fuel pump, etc A check with vag-com for faults would be the best start.

TDi's arent tested the same as petrols, so the cat shouldnt matter.

Its only tested for smoke, and if its belching smoke and cutting out at 60 its almost certainly a sensor issue imo, rather than a mechanical issue.

Stick vagcom on it and see whats up.

Agree.... most likely over fueling causing all the smoke. Another cause could be stuck vains on the turbo.
