Can anyone tell me how to remove the sat nav unit from a 2000 b5 a4. Need to see if the radio code is written anywhere on it after disconnecting the battery.

If it's a retrofit then you have a chance, but if factory fit then you need to check your manual/car pack.

These are a bit on the rubbish side but will do the job, I would also cover the edges with tape as you will cut your fingers to sh!te, when pulling the radio out...
An Audi deal will also be able to get the code, but may charge you!
