Craigs engine looks like it needs a thermostat, and i believe you need to remove the timing belt to change it.

I think the belt was only changed 10k ago, so not decided wether to just change the stat or do the belt too, but what i'm wondering about is how difficult the belt is to remove/refit?

I'm not worried about removing the lock carrier etc, done that before on the A4, its more the belt itself. Does it need special locking tools or anything fancy? Or is it just like a 1.8T, line up the marks and chuck it on?

Cheers

just done my thermostat on a 2.8 30 valve v6 there is no need to remove the timing belt it is possible to twist the belt vertically ie ridges pointing down this gives you enough room to remove the aliminium thermostat housing and change the stat i took the complete front off bumper radiator the lot took me about 3 hours

ooooh thats interesting...

I wonder if the waterpump has been changed with the belt...

If it has i'll maybe just squeeze the stat out like you describe!
