trip computer reset

Hello, Has anyone seen this problem before. I can't get the trip computer reset button to work (it won't turn the driver info display off OR reset the trip computer). I've checked the wiring and the switch and both appear OK. When the switch is not pressed I get 12V at the connector on the wiper switch block, when the switch is pressed I get 0V, so the switch & wiring are probably OK. I get identical signals from the up and down buttons for the trip computer (which both work!). I can only assume it's the trip computer itself. Before I take the instrument panel out, does anyone know if I'm missing something? i.e. the daft computer's not in some kind of funny mode is it?

Maybe worth disconnecting the battery for an hour or so just to be sure

mine randomly does this, i assumed its a dodgey connection. next time i get in the car its fine.
