    Looking to buy A4 TDI Sport, Please Help

    A4 TDI Sport Please Help
    Hi, I'm looking to buy an A4 TDI Sport 130bhp. It's got 76k on the clock and is up for �8495. Is this a good price? Is there anything that i need to really look for and are there any areas that are weak with a car of this mileage?

    Do you think it's a good buy? The service book is all stamped up and they have told me they will get the Water Pump and the Cambelt done before purchase.
    It's a 2004 on an 04 plate. I checked the service book and there is no sign of the timing belt being changed so they said that they would get this done also the water pump as well. It has got the GMBH bodykit on it also half leather hald alacantra interior. I understand that the service intervals are every 2 years or 20k, are there any expensive services to worry about or any major things that need doing as the mileage is clocked up? I only really do about 10k a year. It's a saloon model

    What does AVS stand for? Is this for the long life service intervals? What would you recomend? Whats best cost wise?

    Cheers for your advice guy's. I've still not had a chance to drive the car yet due to the bad weather. Can you change from AVS to fixed servicing? Would AVS not work out cheaper?

    I currently have a Peugeot 207 and the servicing schedule on that is either every 2 years or 20k. I'm trying to sort out my budget to make sure i can afford to run the car. Are they pretty bullet proof with good MPG?

    Cheers aragorn, i was going to suggest keeping it on AVS but changing the Oil/Filter every year just to keep it running nice a clean as the last thing i would want is the engine failing! I would have a go at doing the oil change myself but i'm not sure if i'm brave enough to do it myself as i've never done it.

    I do have somewhere i can take it, my Dad take's his VW Passat to an specialist who is a friend so i would put mine in there to be done.

    Does anyone have any reports or know of any about Autotek Cars in Guildford at all as this is where the A4 i'm looking at is

    hi depends what year we are talking about ? my only worry at this milage would of been the timing belt but if they are having this replaced then no worries is it saloon or avant they had a bit of a facelift on the 04 reg they got a sportier front bumper different side strips at the bottom of the doors and the avants got a rear tailgate spoiler for the sort of money you are talking about i would expect it to have these

    hi mate AVS stands for audi variable servicing which basicaly means the engine monitors its self depending on driving style which means a tdi engine with this system could go an unbelievable 30.000 miles between servicing . just make sure they have a timing belt kit fitted which includes tensioners and idlers and as you have said water pump sounds like a nice car enjoy

    I would walk away from ANY car on longlife service intervals or AVS as the dealer calls-it ! Keeping oil for up to 2 years or 20K in a highly strung engine is very detrimental to the camshaft... Find one on fixed service intervals and make shure its got full service history. I would knock at least 500 notes off the asking price if the cambelt isnt done and i would have it done myself with all the new rollers and a brand new water pump. I dont trust no garage so i do myself the jobs just for piece of mind !

    AVS does work out "cheaper" if you only consider what your paying out each year on services. When the engine fails due to it though, things get very expensive...

    Unfortunately most "new" audis are going to be on AVS, when your talking about B5 models its a bit hit and miss, but newer cars will tend to have been on it by default from new.

    One option is to keep the car on AVS but change the oil yourself either half way thru the interval or even more frequently, or you can take the car off AVS and do the full "service" at a much shorter interval. Given that all the "service" entails is an oil/filter change and a visual look over the rest of the car, i sure wouldnt be paying audi 200 for the privilege! Find a good independant, and use them for your servicing work if you dont want to do it yourself.

    I change the oil in our car every 5k, but it only costs me 20 as i do it myself.

    Manufacturers have been stretching service intervals out, because it looks good on paper and to prospective buyers, that doesnt mean its good for the car. As long as the car will get thru the warranty period the mfr isnt bothered if the engine blows up when its only 6 years old due to oil sludge.

    if you are spending that sort of money why not get a quattro? holds value better and awesome grip
