My recently purched B5 came with the full set of keys, two fob blade keys a master and lock. The problem is that both the flip out blade keys have been broken on the pivot part of the flip out mechanism. I still have the actual key blades, but need to replace the mechanism.

Can this be easily done, I assume I would need to get an old key to remove that part ?

Thanks

I got a few of them from the scrappers, I just told them what I was after and they got me the top part with the blade attached. I got four of them for a tenner. (they are the same as VW)

Very easy to swap the parts out on too.

I got a few VW / Seat / skoda ones for the flip barrel bit.
I couldn't find how to seperate the top part (half), without physically destructing the key.

I assume mine has the transponder in the top half, so i would need to retain it.

mine splits so the bottom part (without buttons) comes away from the key.
Blade itself is held on with a small pin IIRC

Yeah, thats right.

What I'm trying to do is replace the flip barrel on the top half. So I'm trying to dismantle the top half, if it's possible.

remove the audi rings badge and it reveals a hidden screw
remove that and it comes apart can take a bit of force though
then you have access to flip mechanism, bit tricky putting it back together but not to difficult
