Correct Coolant

I have a W reg 2,8 q, when I was in my local automotive shop they told me VAG cars require a different type of anti freeze/coolant not the normal stuff. Is this correct or not. The VAG stuff is more expensive than the normal anti freeze.

Is there any danger of damage or corrosion if you use normal anti freeze?

basically anything thats pink/red will be fine. the latest stuff is purple, the old old stuff is blue, thats for all iron lumps. you want pink red or purple

vw sell their G12+ stuff in 1.5L bottles for about £5 and you want a 30% ish dilution. i just stick with that
