Removing Console

There's a few bulbs blown on the console display (speedometer, fuel and temp gauges dark at night) on my 1996 Audi A4 2.6 V6 Quattro. Can anyone here explain how to remove the console to replace the bulbs as I don't want to pay the Audi Centre to replace them this time. Or... is there a website that explains the procedure? I take it that a novice can do this?

Dead easy. Drop the steering wheel down. There is a plastic surround at the top of the steering column which clips off and then undo the 2 screws. you should then be able to pull out the display (i pulled the mileage reset button) to remove the display unit. Unplug the plugs and then you can remove the lights.

One very important thing is don't turn on the ignition once you have removed the display as the airbag system will think there is a fault in the indicator on the dash and will light up the airbag warning. I learnt that the annoying way!
