s4 xenon headlight issue

my s4 (98) headlights are aimed too low. am i right in thinking these have auto leveling on them. should i adjust them using the manual adjust or could it be the case that the auto leveling is not working. how can i tell if they are working. note their is no codes up when vag-com was pluged in.

i had a thought the other day that the headlights were removed when the timing belt was done and the auto leveling not been reset. could this be the case?

basicaly i dont want to go adjusting them to find out the auto leveling (if there is one) is just not working/needing reset.

theres a mode on vagcom that sets the lights to their default position, then you can manually align them with the twisty knobs on the light unit, then they go back to auto.

Check the little linkages on the wheels arent siezed or detached too.
