Pre facelift b5 doors

I know there are 2 types the ones on the early car with nothing at the bottom and the ones with pins and holes on the bottom that take the black trim.

Besides the holes are the doors the same? as im thinking of getting rid of the black strips, plan to grind back the pins and weld the hole then paint.

Besides the holes and studs at the bottom of the doors, both pre-facelifts doors are the same.

Thanks for clearing that for me Siena, thats what i originally thought but when i took a trim off and looked at it i started doubting myself.
