2.8 30v will not idle?

hello guys,
have recently bought an audi a4 avant quattro 2.8 30v 1996,
the car drives perfectly but wont idle!
does any one no what could cause this?
starts up revs as it should but when returns to idle just dies!
bit anoying when ur at a junction lol.
one thing i will say is it has a slight exaust blow but apart from that i cant see any other problems!
any idears?

I'd go looking for an air leak on the inlet manifold pipework first of all.

Make sure connections to things like the ISV are ok. Sounds to me like the ISV is knacked and not opening to let air bypass the TB for idle.
