finally decided to get round to pulling out the instrument cluster to change the bulbs that had gone on my 1996 A4 T Sport
tools needed
1x thin nose pliers
flexible philips heand screw driver (socket set type is fine)
6mm socket for the bulb removal and refit
use this guide to help remove the cluster - the 3 plugs are a bit awkward due to the small space you have, just turn the instrument panel to gain access.

I have taken some pics to show the back of the cluster
there are the following number of bulbs
10x Orange 1.1w bulbs
1x Green 2w bulb
7x black 1.2w bulbs
there are also a number of blanks in my car - 5 on the right looking at the back of the cluster, 2 on the left.
