thanks mike

There is a sticky in the 8l A/S3 forum, that should help you out mate.

dont mess about with it i to had lcd screen that had some pixels not working so sent mine away to so "called dash repair specialist" (tosser)on ebay to get returned back to me saying couldnt fix it then placed back in car and car would not start as dash is coded to ecu had to join AA to get car taken to audi (60miles)and got a new dash fitted costing £450.
my advice is live with it or buy new from audi ! i also tryed a second hand unit from a audi-sport member (£120) but no audi dealer would code for me .

That sounds as if the repair person sent back a different unit? Simply removing the LCD module shouldn't affect the immobilisor. Did you mark you original unit so you knew it was yours?

Very common problem, how bad is it?

If its AEB engined a used dash can be read and recoded using vagcom and Vagtacho. I have the stuff here to do it, but may not be local to you. However the vag tacho cable can be had form ebay for around £40 and that will enable you to read the SKC code from the replacement dash to then allow you to recode it to the car. Sounds difficult, but it really inst

keep an eye on ebay, i bought brand new cluster for my tdi and repaired s4 clocks for my 1.8t fairly cheap and as mark said you can get vag tacho and vagcom and code keys, cluster and correct mileage
certainly cheaper than new one from a dealer

I get them repaired, no issues so far.

Inc. postage, £200. The screen is replaced, and it carries a 48 month warranty too.

i did try vag com which could not code and rang siena for advice to which he did say he could get coded to car but suffolk is a long way from cornwall at the time last year so it did seam the cheaper and quicker option for me to buy new from audi , still have second hand clocks for sale !

As Byzan said you will need or get someone who has Vagtacho and vag.com to sort this out to reprogram it inc mileage

thanks guys for your replys not long had the car and i love it ,thought their might have been a quick fix but if i need to spend a couple of hundred to get it done i need to get a couple of other jobs done first ,i got to get a air con compressor changed first (zexel if anyones got a good one ).
then i have the dreaded turbo rattle ineed to fix also .
thanks chaps

hi
wouldnt mind meeting up with some of you lot would like to show somone what i have bought just to see what you think i live in wolverhampton thanks mike

i bought a 2nd hand dash for 100 quid as my display was same as yours, i got it recoded for 25.00 from audi and it kept the mileage what was on the 2nd hand clocks not the mileage what was on my clocks ! so lower mileage lol
