some real small soldering but i think it works quite well, i need to wire a switch somewhere and i need another vent as this one is hacked up too much,

    what do ya think?

oh yeah it started off as a tomtom 1, its wired to charge with the ignition and i can wire the switch where ever?

    Cool!

More pics... better pics... instruction guide on how to do it...!

Bet that's gonna look ace when you've finished it!

Trouble is... how can you update it as you'll not be able to connect it to a computer/laptop to get the latest maps/voices, etc...?

Install an extension lead that you can get to, in the glovebox or something...

To install something like this you'll need to rig up some kind of 5v psu to the usb port on the tomtom, and then have a pass-through to a female usb connector in the glovebox (or wherever).. then you'll need (most likely) an external GPS antenna (tomtom v3 doesnt support this, v2 does, not sure about other models).. I was also going to hook up the speaker output into my head unit to route the audio through the stereo system and support auto-attenuate so you can hear the instructions.

I've made it so you can unplug and remove the vent with the sat nav in to up date,

the only issue i have is the gap at the bottom but it really isn't as bad as it looks in the pics

dunno where to put the switch yet though?
