Removing Viscous Fan

Not quite a B5 issue, but i'll post it here anyway.

I'm wanting to remove the viscous fan from my V8, as its a bit useless where its positioned, i just cant really see how its supposed to come off...

If i look down behind it there is a large nut, but the whole thing just spins if i try to turn it.

Any ideas?

If it's like the B5, there should be somewhere where you can get a screwdriver in
to lock it. It's probably also reverse threaded. See if this is the same:

^^^ That's it exactly. I remember 'telling' the mechanic who was working on my car when I had to put it in when the Alt Belt disintegrated... remember that! (Was just reading the post back). Good luck man.

I'll take a look at that, unfortunately i have a suspicion that the pulley the fans attached to also drives/is attached to the water pump on the V8, so its maybe a little different.
